Transference onto the body

The transference onto the body is of essence with our current patients and particularly, when the analysand suffers from a body-mind dissociation. By this I mean she has an absence of emotional resonance, together with clear manifestations of estrangement from, or indifference towards herself and her own physicality. If it is true that psychoanalysis is a relational process and that the parallel transference onto the analyst is always working, I want to underline that the focus of working through should be oriented toward the analysand herself—her way of relating to the concreteness of her own body, learning to understand her place and boundaries in space and time.
